A failed perfume experiment ignited cross-border inspiration
In 2021, when the perfumer Xiaoyu was preparing a perfume named “Rose Ruins” in the laboratory, he accidentally found that some natural plant gum could adsorb essential oil molecules for 48 hours. When she applied the spice stained test paper to the inside of her wrist, she found that there was still a faint fragrance floating after washing it three times. This episode, which was supposed to be a “formula accident,” made Carl, the founder with a PhD in materials science,’s eyes light up – “What if fragrance could be imprinted on the skin like a tattoo
At that time, perfume products on the market were falling into homogeneous competition: glass bottles, aerosols, solid ointments The form has not been reformed for twenty years. However, the demand for “invisible wear” among young consumer groups is exploding: they need to express their personality while rejecting stickiness; To maintain long-lasting fragrance while pursuing harmless and skin friendly properties. In the late night laboratory, the team drew the intersection points on the whiteboard of tattoo stickers, nano microcapsules, and slow-release factors – perhaps smells can really grow patterns.

237 iterations, carving a sense of breath within one ten thousandth of a millimeter
Embedding fragrance molecules into tattoo stickers is not an easy task. Traditional ink can disrupt the activity of essential oils, making it difficult for water-soluble film materials to lock in fragrance. What’s even more challenging is how to simultaneously rupture and release tens of thousands of fragrance microcapsules when they are attached to the skin. The team has tried 37 types of substrate materials such as silk protein and corn fiber, and finally extracted biomimetic membrane materials from plants. Its thickness of 0.01 millimeters can carry high-precision pattern printing and trigger intelligent release systems through body temperature.
The most difficult moment occurred in the 193rd experiment: the perfumer discovered that citrus essential oils always make the edges of the pattern turn yellow. To solve this problem, chemical engineers have developed the “molecular shield” technology – wrapping essential oil particles with plant polysaccharides, like putting invisible protective clothing on each fragrance molecule. When one early morning, the blue lotus flower blooming on the tattoo still emitted a clear cedar fragrance 12 hours later, everyone knew that the revolutionary ScentTattoo ® Technology has been born.
